Children diagnosed with a DCC may experience significant delays in speech and language. Some do eventually catch up with their peers in certain areas; others remain at a delayed level or may not develop spoken language. Lecture presents an overview on delays associated with DCC (including possible apraxia diagnosis), assistive therapies and technologies, and the role of the speech/language pathologist. Lecture emphasizes the importance of early intervention, of recognizing that children with DCC are often able to understand much more than they are able to express, and of using a child’s strengths as tools for therapy.
